K-Wave Stateside: K-Pop Stories in American News (Week of October 21- October 27)

Flower Boys and Beastly K-Pop Stars

Harvard Crimson had an article this week regarding about the image of "flower boy" and "Beastly idol" which is basically the soft and cute K-pop idols vs. the mucho and strong idols. You see this in the K-Pop music industry and think this is probably common; though if you go deeper into it, one will say that the cute are too feminine while the strong are the manly ones. This is an interesting case in point and one that needs attention; why do K-Pop guys need to act both gentle and manly in the inside? Can they just have one which is to be strong, powerful, and not feminine. Very interesting.

Shinee's "Everybody" Hits Number One to Knock Off IU While T-ara Hits Top 5

Shinee had numerous competition this past weeks but were able to still hit the number one spot with their song "Everybody" by removing IU. This is really impressive considering the competition that they were up against which were T-ara, K.Will, and other big OST tracks. The article than goes on to say about other groups and where they are placed on the Korean chart. T-ara is at number five for this week. Great job Shinee and T-ara!
