Fierce October Music Wars, Who Gets the Last Laugh?

October, the month of numerous artist comebacks, is finally coming to an end. Who is the winner of the October War of Music Comebacks?

In the beginning of October, the band Busker Busker had a strong grip on the victor title. They released their 2nd album and had their comeback on September 25th. Their title song "Love, At First" was number 1 on multiple music sites and programs such as Mnet and MBS Music, right into the 2nd week of October.

There was a period when drummer Bradley Ray Moore revealed the problems with "Superstar K3" in an interview for an international music magazine. Although he was the center of this issue, Busker Busker still kept their place at the top of music charts and the top spots on music programs.

Following Busker Busker's comeback, IU made her comeback in 1 year and 5 months. Her 3rd album Modern Times featured her title song "The Red Shoes," which won IU the trophy of the top 3 music programs, and awarded her with a triple crown.

However, IU was swept up in a plagiarism controversy. Some netizens complained that IU's "The Red Shows" had a similar melody to musician Nektar's "Here's Us," and accused her of plagiarizing the tune. IU's agency LOEN Entertainment responded by commenting, "Although a portion of 'Here's Us' may sound similar to the 2nd part of 'The Red Shoes,' the two songs have a different chord progression," and denied the allegations.

Then SHINee stepped in to put a stop to IU's run. SHINee released their 5th album Everybody with a title song of the same name on October 14th. Their song also rose to the top spots on the major music programs.

Not only that, SHINee took the number 1 spot for 2 consecutive weeks (October 21-27) on Hanteo Chart, Hot Tracks, Sinnara Records, and other album sales charts. They also recorded the highest sales numbers on music chart Gaon Chart (October 13-19), including digital, download, and album sales, and took the number 1 spot on various music programs as well.
