A public initiative of the Korean government is underway to encourage reading. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) hosted a book-sharing event on August 2 at Seoul and Yongsan stations in order to foster a cultural climate that encourages reading.
The culture ministry presented people going on holiday with a total of 5,000 books.
“I would like to recommend them to make time to read books and talk to themselves during holidays whether in the waterside or depth of mountains”, said Minister Yoo Jin-ryong of MCST.

MCST has been pushing forward a book campaign that implements good reading habits for citizens and encourages them to read 20 minutes a day and twelve books in a year. The culture ministry also has been working together with writers and library experts on diverse programs and book drives.
