Paul McCartney has waited almost 30 years to Get Back the copyrights to songs he wrote for The Beatles.
Now, only FIVE more years to Let It Be, and the whole debacle will be Yesterday.
Much of The Beatles catalogue has been owned by Michael Jackson, now his estate, posthumously, since 1985, when the King of Pop reportedly paid $47.5 million for the Associated Television Corporation’s back catalog, which held hundreds of Beatles songs.
So not only has Paul been unable to cash in on his musical GENIUS for decades now, he has had to PAY MJ any time he wants to play a song he wrote!
Says a source:
"Paul's been fuming for decades. It's as much personal as business. Now he'll get back what's rightfully his."
In 2005, MJ sold half the rights to Sony Music for $95 million, but under the 1976 U.S. Copyright Act, all songs written prior to 1978 revert to their writers after 56 years, which will be 2018 for Paul.
The two pop legends recorded The Girl Is Mine together in 1982 for Michael’s Thriller album, but for obvious reasons, the personal and professional partnership didn’t last, though by Michael’s death in 2009, Paul reportedly had decided I Feel Fine about the whole ordeal.
We’re happy Paul is getting his songs back soon! It’s nice to see an artist and his art Come Together after sooooooooo long!
