Shinoda Mariko To Leave AKB48

Team A’s captain will be saying her goodbyes.

Shinoda Mariko, captain of AKB48‘s team A, announced during her speech at the AKB48 32nd Single Senbatsu General Election that she will be leaving the group in July of 2013. Shinoda ranked fifth in the election which took place on June 8th at the Nissan Stadium in Yokohama, Japan. A native of Fukuoka, Shinoda will graduate after their concert at the Fukuoka Yafuoku! Dome, saying that she wanted her final show to be in her hometown.

Shinoda is not the first member of this mega girl group to announce their departure this year. Her decision to leave follows the similar decisions of Nakatsuka Tomomi, Akimoto Sayaka, Sayaka Nakaya, and more.
